We are left with a helpless feeling when confronting realities like Rwanda, Sudan and Cambodia. What can we do? Is there a ’solution,’ or should we be satisfied with small steps? 3. Mellisa quoted the head of her aid group in Zimbabwe as saying that we shouldn’t try to always focus on big things, but recognize that every action makes a difference. What does that mean to you in your life, and as you think about the issues of this course? 4. Many people commented on the use of children in war, and how easily children are manipulated, and whether or not they should be punished. Many times, groups like the Khmer Rouge try to act like a "family" to children, and make them feel cared for within the group, and then turn the group on a perceived threat or enemy. Reflect on the power families have on shaping a child’s development. December 1
