continues. I found this writing assignment to be very informative as it made me more aware of
what must be done to stop the destruction of the environment now, and not in the future when the
damage has already occurred. While I would not call myself an environmentalist, I have always
leaned toward the environment’s side when it comes to policy and programs. I have implemented
recycling programs for communities where I have worked, and plan to implement more in the
future. This assignment provided me a reality check in how important these programs are even
on a local level. Environmental regulations must begin with baby steps that will eventually lead to
steps on a global level.
The final seminar paper for this course was a challenging assignment. For this
assignment, I wanted to write a paper on a subject that was timely, relevant, and informative to
both myself and the reader. In light of the events of 9/11 and new foreign policy dilemmas, I
chose to write this paper on homeland security and its effects on immigrants to our country,
including students and workers. This paper was very enlightening in that I had no idea the
hardships that were being faced by foreign students desiring to seek an education in our country.
Though the road to my college degree has not been easy, a college education in and of itself was
something that had always been available. Unfortunately this opportunity is no longer available to
those who visit our country, especially those of Middle Eastern descent.
Although I found the subject matter of POL 421C to be very interesting, I prefer to
implement what I have learned in either a municipal or state level of government. Even so, the
writing assignments for POL 421C have provided me ideas and insights that I can implement into
the municipal government environment where I currently work. I want to implement additional
programs that will benefit the environment and create a healthy atmosphere in which to live. I
want to work in an atmosphere that is open to all regardless of race, gender, or religion. I first
began college as an 18 year old unsure of what I wanted to do with my life. Now, fifteen years
later, I have finally decided what I want to do - I want to be an American citizen poised on the
edge of the 21
st
century where anything is possible and where every voice counts in the new
world of globalization. No voice is too small.
