Demonstrating Quality Field Experiences: Unit Assessment Systems
Unformatted Document Text:  iv. Stimulate a discussion on the topic At the end of the session, the authors will attempt to stimulate a discussion on the topic to discuss individual requirements of participants versus what they observed in the system. b. Methods The authors will provide a detailed overview of the process described above. Sample assessments, documentation forms, reports, and general use of data for program improvement will be shared. Participants will be able to view the Campus Tools HigherEd system in place at one institution, from a college and faculty perspective. This viewing will enable participants to get a real sense of the unit assessment system as it works on a day-to-basis and will be able to get a comprehensive preview of the Field Experience Tab. Furthermore, web links and handouts documenting the various samples will be provided to all participants. The authors will first discuss the requirements of a good assessment system, with emphasis on field experiences and clinical practice, reviewing the referenced literature and discussing various accreditation agency standards. This will be followed with a discussion of a system implemented by the authors at Georgia Southern University. The authors will discuss all phases of the system, including design, customization and adoption at the university. The authors will extensively demonstrate the system during the session, emphasizing various discussion points with actual implementation details. The authors will demonstrate customization of the system for placement, selection of cooperating sites, cooperating teachers, design of the field experiences as per the requirements of the program, student submissions and assessments by cooperating teachers and university supervisors. This will be followed by a review and discussion of various reports to reflect the ability to view and analyze data, with emphasis on program improvement. Finally, the authors will answer questions by participants and will attempt to lead this into a discussion by session participants.
