Beyond Tourism: Development and Impact of Meaningful Educational Travel Experiences

Section II: Outcomes and Methods As stated above, an overriding objective of this presentation is to inspire educators to include international as well as domestic intercultural encounters as an increasing part of the education of young people. Through mini-lecture and small group discussion with critical incidents, participants will learn aspects of effective cross-cultural orientation designed to facilitate effective intercultural adjustment, be introduced to the Developmental Model of Intercultural Sensitivity (DMIS, Bennett, 1993) as well as in-country experiences of participants of varying ages, and gain knowledge of the impact of such experiences.
