Implications of Current High School Research on Teacher Education
Unformatted Document Text:  will be tracked over time to determine lasting program effects. Some of the concrete changes may include specific recommendations for tomorrow’s high schools to meet the future needs of students. Access to course and learning materials may evolve to a 24/7 time frame that is centered round a year long school. Athletic programs seem to be a major barrier for changing many of the curriculum formats that would enable students to move at their own pace through high school to college and/or work. Also this study will suggest exemplary practices that will be subjected, and should be, to increased scrutiny by educational researchers. Section II: Outcomes and MethodsA. Learner/participant outcomes: Describe what you intend the participants to learn during the session. Participants will learn about the preliminary findings of this study and the implications to preparing future teachers. They will have an opportunity to interact by challenging or suggesting implications for teacher education in their respective schools. Hopefully, we could address some of the barriers to changing teacher education in the context of available research and evaluation data. B. Methods: Describe how you will design the session so that the learner/participant outcomes are achieved. The session will be organized around the following format. A short presentation will be made to present some of the major findings of the High School Evaluation Study and related teacher education issues. The session will be augmented by providing handouts that summarizes the findings and teacher education implications. Participants will be encouraged to participate freely in the discussion. Copies of the research report will be made available online. 3

will be tracked over time to determine lasting program effects. Some of the concrete changes may include
specific recommendations for tomorrow’s high schools to meet the future needs of students. Access to
course and learning materials may evolve to a 24/7 time frame that is centered round a year long school.
Athletic programs seem to be a major barrier for changing many of the curriculum formats that would
enable students to move at their own pace through high school to college and/or work. Also this study
will suggest exemplary practices that will be subjected, and should be, to increased scrutiny by
educational researchers.
Section II: Outcomes and Methods
A. Learner/participant outcomes: Describe what you intend the participants to learn during the session.
Participants will learn about the preliminary findings of this study and the implications to preparing future
teachers. They will have an opportunity to interact by challenging or suggesting implications for teacher
education in their respective schools. Hopefully, we could address some of the barriers to changing
teacher education in the context of available research and evaluation data.
B. Methods: Describe how you will design the session so that the learner/participant outcomes are
achieved.
The session will be organized around the following format. A short presentation will be made to present
some of the major findings of the High School Evaluation Study and related teacher education issues. The
session will be augmented by providing handouts that summarizes the findings and teacher education
implications. Participants will be encouraged to participate freely in the discussion. Copies of the research
report will be made available online.
