Mentoring and Assessing: An Expanded Alliance

The work under consideration in this session is directly related to the description of the call for proposals Creating New Visions for Teacher Education and the theme strand, Picturing Expanded Alliances. Specifically, the session will address the question of how a university and urban school district can work together to support pre-service and novice teachers through a mentoring and assessment program. D. Conclusions: The examination and application of a mentoring and assessment system used at a university and urban school district will enhance the knowledge of all participants and afford information for use in refining the system and in furthering research into the professional paradigm under consideration. Section II: Outcomes and Methods A. Learner/participant outcomes: Participants will gain • Information on the mentoring system, including how the system was collaboratively established • Insight into the professional paradigm allowing for combining assessment and mentoring • Opportunities to ask questions, offer suggestions, discuss concerns Organizers will gain • Responses from participants to refine the mentoring process • Information to include in on-going research of the professional paradigm under consideration B. Methods: • Organizers will give a brief overview of the mentoringSystem A sample of the assessment system will be shared Discussion and analysis of the system will follow with large group C. N/A
