A Collaborative Model for Teacher Education

Every aspect of the teacher education process was restructured including the curriculum, policy-making, faculty governance, admissions requirements, and other essential functions. This collaborative flourishes in a university setting even as it has grown to 18,000 students. E. As Colleges of Education reach out to form partnerships to support teacher education, Arts & Sciences colleagues are the first logical alliance. The initial and continuing effort to create and maintain relationships is not easy but the investment is worthwhile as the relationship strengthens the programs in all colleges. Section II: Outcomes & Methods A. Participants will learn about the governance structure of the Professional Teacher Education Unit and how six Colleges collaborate to support 11 undergraduate teacher education programs and four discipline-rich Masters level programs in Adolescent Education. B. Presentation to acquaint participants with conceptual structure with examples from several programs. The panel of presenters includes the chair of the Department of Secondary & Middle Grades Education in the College of Education, one faculty member from that department, and one from the Department of Mathematics in the College of Science and Mathematics. Different perspectives will be given. This is an interactive session with input from the panel and audience on variations of the model, benefits and challenges, questions, and open discussion.
