Making a Difference at the State Level: A Partnership Between a College of Education and a State Education Agency
| |
| | Unformatted Document Text:
Implication for Action: There are implications of this work for the local, state, and national arenas. Within the context of New Mexico, the work related to teacher quality efforts have already begun to display evidence of changes in how teachers describe their work. Colleges of education and other teacher certification programs have begun to align their requirements with those of the Professional Development Dossier, in which teachers must explain the evidence related to the quality of their teaching and success of their students. The assessment system has impacted the preparation and professional development required for administrators as well. Other states have expressed interest both in the nature of the new accountability system and the collaborative nature of development of reform efforts. The continued documentation and evaluation of the outcomes of the alliance between the Public Education Department and the college of education can inform the work of other higher education institutions embarking on similar collaborative initiatives.
Section II:
A. Learner/participant outcomes: Participants will…
•
Learn how one college of education has worked with a Public Education Department in initiating a statewide, systemic educational reform.
•
Understand the emerging connections between this alliance and improvement of teacher quality and student learning.
•
Recognize successful practices that have been developed through this alliance that have implications for their own work.
B. Methods: This session will be interactive in nature that includes direct
information through a powerpoint presentation, small group discussion of materials and simulations of collaborative processes, and time for question and answer.
