Additionally, insofar as the paper develops an argument about the impact of racial
socialization on political socialization, the dearth of survey data that contain questions
within one dataset on racial and political socializations and racial and political trusts
limits my ability to test the relationships among these phenomena. However, using the
2000 Social Capital Benchmark Survey, I am able to test the covariation between racial
and political trusts. I also propose a survey that includes measures for each of these
concepts.

In the next sections, I discuss the link among race, trust, partisanship and
representation. Then, I present preliminary results on the covariation between racial trust
and political trust. Next, I discuss the literature on racial socialization and political
socialization in order to theorize about the way the relationship between racial and
political trusts is learned and politicized in racial and political socializations. Last, I
propose a study for determining the impact of socialization experiences on political trust
among African Americans.

I will discuss this survey in more detail later in the paper. However, please note that the survey is one that
will be placed in the field in the near future as a part of my dissertation research.
