Abstract:
|
Tocqueville asserts that a new political science is needed for a world altogether new. Images of and references to motion precede and follow the comment about political science. To understand what Tocqueville intends by this call for a new political science, I first consider the theme of motion, specifically the motion required of the people to sustain democracy, next I consider the theme of motion in the writings of some prominent figures who may be characterized as being representative of old and new political science, and finally I present some concluding thoughts on Tocqueville's teaching. |
