They all show a strong preference toward ASEAN countries. China has
entered an agreement with ASEAN to establish the AFTA-China within ten years. Japan
has concluded an FTA with Singapore, and initiated a joint study on the feasibility of an
AFTA-Japan. South Korea has not only initiated a joint study on Korea-Thailand FTA,
but also began official discussions on a Korea-Singapore FTA. And all three countries
have agreed to discuss an East Asian FTA involving ASEAN plus Three. At the same
