Abstract:
|
The wide range of literally sources as well as the historical events Althusius refers to in his major work, the Politica Methodice Digesta, are well known. The Politica is not only full of references to the Bible or the Calvinist reading, but just as much to the ancient, medieval and early modern classics and to allusions to historical and contemporary realities. In this paper, the attempt is made to illuminate on what sources Althusius's federal theory is based. It is argued finally that Althusius federal idea is in mainly based on Roman law, in particular its medieval and early modern reading. |
