Abstract:
|
The purpose of this paper is capture new developments in interdisciplinary feminist rethinkings of globalization in the new millennium and the post-9/11 world as part of revising our landmark volume, Gender and Global Restructuring: Sightings, Sites and Resistances (Routledge 2000), for a second edition. We retain our emphasis on global restructuring as an uneven, shifting, and complex process to counter teleological and economistic conceptions of globalization, but we will explore new feminist sightings of the varied cultural meanings of globalization as examined in recent queer analyses and world (bank) literature studies. We will also analyze recent work, such as that by V. Spike Peterson, which seeks to redefine economic globalization, reconceptualizing the economy as multiple and interactive reproductive, productive, and virtual economies. Further, we will connect feminist (re)sightings of global restructuring with emergent feminist analyses of the post-9/11 (re)militarized world (dis)order. We will finally address the implications of new feminist reconceptualizations for resistance to restructuring. |
