Abstract:

Guns and money are the stuff of political power; violence and economic production are central to the viability of the social structures which sustain conflict. This paper explores the guns-&-money logic of social practice in a war zone. Drawing on recent work on the political economy of armed conflict, and on recent applications of global commodity chain analysis to the production of conflict commodities, the paper develops an analysis of the war zone as a social construct, both local and global.
