well-documented cases, the veneration and sanctification of deceased
notables whose earthly record is undeserving of either (or even in some cases,
convivial memory). And perhaps surpassing these, there is both an historical
record and marked inclination of the designated authorities to go beyond
divination and lay claim to an unerring authority to pronounce and define
questions, answers and interpretations on matters that attendant expert
advisors held in good faith to be contestable or unknowable, and then to
declare, fiat! (‘Let it be done!’). That it is done testifies to the willingness of
many to let another think for them, to the submission of the believers, and to
the spirit of acceptance expressed as: Christus ipse locutus est (‘this is Christ
himself speaking’).
Governance
The manner and actions of government dictated by this ability to
ventriloquise God, and to mobilise obedience to it, necessarily imposes
methodological, linguistic, and habitational isolation on authority. It follows
that the conduct that is required of the faithful in the face of experience and
clear evidence that official doctrine is unhelpful or wrong, or authority is
being abused or acquired fraudulently, is equally necessary: silent submission
at the very least, affirmation of the unexamined certainties and expressions of
support for the pre-digested faith and the actions which ensued from it being
preferred. The habit learned to the point of becoming a shield and a virtue of
advancement is the acquisition and maintenance of ignorantia affecta
(cultivated ignorance). Confirmed thereby is the essence of citizenship,
membership, and communion: a genuinely adequate and well-adjusted
(rational) betrayal of the conscience, freedom of speech and principles of good
government; the stifling of “sudden outbreaks of meaning,” and a life lauded
as being in conformity with vulgaris opinio (popular views). In any case those
choosing resistance and rebellion must survive the attention of which official
