Panel: Critical Perspectives on Global Governance: The Politics of the Global
Global governance as a political idea has the chance to supersede other understandings ofworld order. In academia the concept is emerging as an important framework to imaginethe global realm; in the policy sphere, global governance is an emerging/emergentpolitical project and frame of reference. Both as framework and as project, globalgovernance affects the lifeworlds of us all. Therefore, by linking structural dynamics tothe individuals affected and the individuals shaping world order, this panel hopes todemarcate the politics of global governance. This means that as critical social scientistswe need to ask: Who are the global governors? How do "global governors" do politics? How can "global governors" be held accountable?
The participants are
Fritz Kratochwil (EUI Florence, Italy): Chair and DiscussantPhilipp Mueller (Tec de Monterrey, Mexico): The Politicians of Global GovernanceJoerg Friedrichs (IU Bremen): global governance from above: why it takes political willto crack down on criminal financeAlexander Ochs (German Institute for Security and International Affairs,Berlin): Global Governance in the Area of Climate Change
