Abstract:
|
This paper explores party system fragmentation in fourteen countries of Central and Eastern Europe. First, the analysis approaches the issue of fragmentation from a broader theoretical and comparative perspective. Second, the argument makes a novel claim that differences in patterns of fragmentation are less observable across countries and more visible within the party systems with the right and the center-right segments of the party space experiencing greater “balkanization” in the majority of the countries considered. Finally, the paper suggests the necessity to further explore institutionalization differences between the Left and the Right in Eastern Europe. |
