How Chilly is the Climate? Perceptions about the Status of Gender Equity at the University of Texas at San Antonio

PERCEPTIONS ABOUT THE STATUS OF GENDER EQUITY AT THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AT SAN ANTONIO ABSTRACT Despite important gains made by women in gender equality, various challenges still exist. University life is one area where they have both made gains and yet still have significant challenges. The purpose of this research is to assess perceptions and facts about the current status of gender equity in higher education. It offers an overview of gender discrimination and perceptions of gender discrimination at a large public university in Texas. This research goes further than most by extensively exploring perceptions about inequality on the University campus. Multiple methods of analysis, scopious survey questionnaire, highly inclusive sample, and an ample literary foundation, allows for a comprehensive investigation of gender dynamics and the status of women in the academy. I utilize the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) as a case study, using a combination of aggregate data about UTSA and qualitative survey and focus group data. This paper reports findings of both qualitative and quantitative research methods depending on the type of data and the level of measurement of the variables.

ABSTRACT
Despite important gains made by women in gender equality, various challenges still exist.
University life is one area where they have both made gains and yet still have significant challenges. The
purpose of this research is to assess perceptions and facts about the current status of gender equity in higher
education. It offers an overview of gender discrimination and perceptions of gender discrimination at a
large public university in Texas.
This research goes further than most by extensively exploring perceptions about inequality on the
University campus. Multiple methods of analysis, scopious survey questionnaire, highly inclusive sample,
and an ample literary foundation, allows for a comprehensive investigation of gender dynamics and the
status of women in the academy.
I utilize the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) as a case study, using a combination of
aggregate data about UTSA and qualitative survey and focus group data. This paper reports findings of both
qualitative and quantitative research methods depending on the type of data and the level of measurement of
the variables.
