I. BACKGROUND
The system of government of the US is based on a written document, the
Constitution, which sets the ground rules for the interaction between the government and
the people and thus protects the rights of the latter. Although students who went to school
in the US have an idea of the relevance of the Constitution, many ignore the reasons why;
and an even higher percentage of students lack specific knowledge to pinpoint to examples
of how this document affects their rights.
1. MAIN ASSUMPTIONS
a. Students learn better when they control more of the learning process.
b. To create a course that provides students more control over the learning process,
it is necessary to facilitate and increase not only collaboration among students but also self-
study opportunities.
c. The teacher’s traditional role as a provider of authoritative content must be
combined with that of a facilitator.
