A Curriculum for Internship Programs

Whatever the ultimate goal of Washington internship programs, the most important consideration is to make sure that there is some coherence between the academic requirements and internship experience. There are many forces, both internal and external to colleges or universities, that create incoherence. These forces, described in some detail in this paper, are best addressed through advanced planning and oversight. While we suspect that interest in experiential learning will grow in future years, the barriers to the effective incorporation of this interest into the college and university curriculum nonetheless remain high.
