Finally, discuss the assignment in class, and well before the due date. You can discuss
possible approaches to the assignment. Ask your students to generate evidence from the assigned
reading and then analyze it together. Brainstorm a series of thesis statements appropriate to the
assignment, as well as those that are inappropriate.
Rather than seeing knowledge as something we impart to our students and then evaluate
at periodic moments over the course of the semester, we have been encouraging more integrative
and student-centered approach to teaching. We believe that teaching is the facilitation of learning
and the highest expression of disciplinary knowledge.
