Those who joined Clan Seraphim were equally religious in their zeal, including this
female player, who constitute a small minority or less than 8 percent of all players:

One pilot challenged the group’s posts for their lack of tolerance. A member of the group
responded that it is worse to encourage whining and honorable pilots should rely on battle
to solve their differences. Of course, much of this role playing was in jest. When asked
by a known role player if they were taking their roles too seriously, the members of the
new clan answered back that they should be allowed to have their fun. These pilots were
role playing, but they were serious about the underlying factors and members were
overjoyed by the return of their "retired" comrade – Gabriel. By falling into role-playing,
the clan members were coordinating different BattleTech properties as well as displaying
their mastery of interaction in this community.
The challenge is a clear example of how the environment at a BattleTech
installation, the rules that pilots observe, and the behavior that is encouraged, define the
social interactions that people have. The pilots are able to produce their own structural
controls, but these controls are about contextualizing the game and making it seemingly
