Historical Drifts Without Paradigm Shifts: A Historical Analysis of Newspaper Coverage of Social Protest
Unformatted Document Text:  Protest Coverage in Wisconsin Newspapers 1960-1999 -24- in rural papers may be slightly decreasing, yet both may be starting to write longer articles about protests. In summary, the results of this research seem to indicate that the volume and topics of protest coverage varied considerably over time. However, the nature of the characteristics of protest was more stable. This may be indicative of the notion that the media may respond to social change in terms of their newsworthiness judgments, but they may routinely apply a fairly stable protest paradigm when constructing news stories..
