Violent Media Content: A Cross-Media, Longitundinal Analysis
Unformatted Document Text:  46 Degree of realism- 1 = The violent act seemed very realistic, lifelike. It was something that could happen in real life; 2 = The violent act was somewhat realistic and lifelike, possibly but unlikely something that would happen in real life; 3 = The violent act wasvery unrealistic and un-lifelike. It could never happen in real life. Presence of weapons- The type of weapon used was recorded (e.g., gun, knife, bomb, etc.). It was also noted if no weapon was used or if multiple weapons were used. Anti-violent theme- 1 = Did have an anti-violent theme; there was dialogue, plot developments, etc. that suggested that the overall point of the story was to show that violence is NOT good; 2 = did not have an anti-violence theme. Location- For newspapers and newsmagazines, the page number on which the story was located was noted. For TV news, the start time and the end time for the story was noted. For primetime television, the time slot of the program was noted.
