Agenda setting and political partisanship in an election campaign: Reinforcing and undermining partisan voting intentions
Unformatted Document Text:  22 Future research needs to combine a focus on macro-level questions about the formation of beliefs about public agendas and public opinion with a focus on more micro- level questions. These include questions about the individual predispositions and political identities that affect the acceptance of issues as personally important and the impact of this acceptance on subsequent political behavior. Although media coverage of controversial political issues may provide the broad social context in which a given electoral battle is contested and voting decisions made, social psychological factors including political partisanship ensure that there are systematic differences in the way individuals respond politically, pointing to the need for social psychological analyses of election campaigns.
