Unformatted Document Text:  A N EW A PPROACH TO U.S. C OPYRIGHT P OLICY A GAINST P IRACY IN C HINA A BSTRACT Despite the coercive American foreign intellectual property policy, copyright piracy still remains rampant in China. In order to reconfigure the U.S.-China intellectual property debate, this paper examines a broad range of historical, socio-economic, cultural and political differences relevant to copyright between two countries. Also, the paper articulates how those unique differences in the Chinese copyright system have contributed to the current copyright infringement, particularly in optical media products. The paper concludes that U.S. policy enforcement in China has failed to reconcile the sensitive political, economic, cultural differences between two countries. This paper suggests that local dimensions of copyright must be considered in international copyright law and policy.
