The demographics of these new immigrants are relatively homogenous. Among these 11 participants (3 in Zhuhai, 4 each in Guangzhou and Shenzhen), there are 11 females, 2 college-graduates, 6 junior college graduates, and 4 holding only high school diploma. All in their late teens and early twenties, they were either seeking their first job or trying to change to a better job, mostly in service provision and manufacture industries. Prior to the focus groups, these new immigrant participants had worked as my survey interviewers for three to four days.
