Examining the Correlates of Physical Activity for Whites, Blacks and Hispanics in a National Sample: The Role of Demographics, Social Connections and Self-Efficacy
Unformatted Document Text:  10 exogenous and endogenous variables (Figure 1 shows the conceptual diagram). Moreover, figures 2, 3 and 4 display the results of the path diagrams for Whites, Blacks and Hispanics respectively. The fit statistics indicated a reasonably good fit for all three samples (Table 1). For Whites, the hypothesized model showed an improvement over the null model ( 2 diff = 7405, df diff =48, p<0.05), with GFI=0.96, NFI=0.89, NNFI=0.84, CFI=0.90, IFI=0.90, standardized RMR=0.052. Similarly, the hypothesized model fitted the Black ( 2 diff = 1137, df diff =45, p<0.05, GFI=0.94, NFI=0.88, NNFI=0.88, CFI=0.93, IFI=0.93, standardized RMR=0.059) and Hispanic ( 2 diff = 737, df diff =45, p<0.05), with GFI=0.94, NFI=0.87, NNFI=0.92, CFI=0.95, IFI=0.95, standardized RMR=0.052) samples reasonably well. This means that the hypothesized model is correct for all three sampled ethnic groups. Decomposition of Effects for Whites, Blacks and Hispanics Tables 2, 3 and 4 show the standardized total effects estimates for the exogenous and endogenous variables and the factor loadings of the indicators. Across all three races, results showed that the structural paths were in the directions hypothesized and the factor loadings were of appropriate sizes. While Tables 2, 3 and 4 present the total effects estimates, Table 5 shows the direct effects of exogenous variables on endogenous variables and among the endogenous variables themselves. Across Whites, Blacks, and Hispanics, males had better social connections than females (Whites, = -0.19; Blacks, = -0.16; Hispanics, = -0.22). With regard to
