"Social connections" measures how many times in the past year [from 1 for "none in the past year" to 7 for "more than 52 times"] the respondent has done these things: "Give or attended a dinner party," "played cards" and "entertained people in my home." Self-efficacy. The DDB data contains 5 items that concern personal control, a close approximation of self-efficacy, all measured on a scale ranging from 1, "I definitely agree to the statement," to 6, "I definitely disagree with the statement." The five items are: "I feel I am under a great deal of pressure most of the time," "Sometimes I feel that I don’t have enough control over the direction my life is taking," "I feel like I’m so busy trying to make everybody else happy that I don’t have control of my own life," "Everything is changing too fast today," and "I wish I knew how to relax."
