Effects of Ideal Body Images--Translatable Across Gender and Culture?

H1b: Exposure to female ideal models will lower female participants’ self- evaluation of body image. H2a: Exposure to male ideal models will lower male participants’ self-esteem. As an exploratory endeavor, we also pose the following research question: RQ1: Will exposure to ideal models of the opposite sex influence participants’ self-evaluation of body image or self-esteem? Finally, because of the huge difference existing between urban areas and rural areas in the Chinese case, the effects of ideal models may vary based on the area where subjects came from. RQ2: Is there any geographic difference regarding participants’ self-evaluation of body image or self-esteem?
