A. Antecedents and General Objective of the study
Antecedents
The challenge for the Mexican teacher is to motivate students into
more analytical thinking, research and more reasoning, love for reading, motivation to
continue studying. Also to incorporate the use of the new communication
technologies specially that of the use of the web in their classroom. Regardless of the
limitations that the students have of the language, their lack of abilities to search the
web for material, lack of access to Internet at home and the cultural limitations, teachers
are using the Web in school.
Among the cultural distinctions found in the Mexican student is that the student
relies and enjoys working with friends, in groups and with high social interaction. In
the Mexican culture friends are before grades. The systems rewards students that can
work and help others doing favors. Students help themselves because there in no
structure for competition in the class room.
Family and Friend’s relationships. Mexican students relay on parents, family
and friends. An Aunt that is good for writing or a grandmother that is good for math
helps their family members with school work. The student is also expected to help with
homework if the smaller brothers or sisters need help with their class projects. Most
students get together and study for exams in groups; they take turns reading out loud,
and they explain each other.
Not all students take notes in class because they rely on the copies of few students
that take good notes. When someone asks you for your notes or to see your homework,
you are expected to do so in order to continue with the group spirit and do a favor.
