Unformatted Document Text:  SINGLE FATHERS 11 ________________ Results Research Question One asked, “What perceptions of communication quality do fathers have in regard to the communication they have with their child?” To answer RQ1, fathers’ responses to the ICR (Duck et al., 1991) were assessed. See Table 3 below for each quality dimension, means, and standard deviations. As demonstrated below, fathers perceived their communication with their child to be of moderate quality. _____________________ Insert Table 3 About Here _____________________ Research Question Two asked, “What representations of ‘family’ do single-fathers perceive as constituting a family?” As illustrated in Table 4 below, single-fathers embraced a variety of family memberships and representations. Interestingly, the sample was only unanimous in terms of what represented a family in the instances when a man and woman were married and had a child. Fewer single-fathers viewed childless representations as constituting a family or gay or lesbian parents with a child as constituting a family. Thus, although the single- fathers in the sample are personally experiencing a nontraditional family situation, they most often perceived a traditional family representation as a family. ________________ Insert Table 4 Here ________________ Similar to RQ2, Research Question Three also addressed single-fathers’ attitudes toward traditionalism. Results
