Edge of Seventeen: Juvenile Agony and Youth Fantasies in New Queer Adolescence Films
Unformatted Document Text:  These films – melodramatic, romantic, comic and ideological as they may be – can give hope to the agonized teenager who sits at the back of the classroom, and tries so hard to survive the daily mental and physical abuse. This is the teenager who probably burst into tears when he first watched Beautiful Thing at the cinema, and for some reason, he still gets excited when he sees the final scene of this beautiful thing. He just can’t help it. References: Alderice, Nicole, 1965. The Theatre and the Dramatic Theory. London: Harrap. Arendt, Hannah, 1965. On Revolution. New York: Viking Press. Arendt, Hannah, 1959. give hope to the agonized teenager who sits at the back of the classroom, and tries so

He just can’t help it.
