Abstract:

Using CA, this paper investigates how the English-only policy was oriented to in the unfolding interaction of a first semester adult beginning-level EFL classroom in Brazil. The analysis unveils how students and teacher, in orienting to this norm, accomplished actions that went beyond simply addressing content matters or displaying understanding.
