Abstract:

According to many families, African American history is too violent and shameful to discuss with their preschool children. There was a controversy with a teacher who discussed slavery and had had her students act out a slave auction. This lead into parents get upset with their children learning so young about African American history in a negative way. They also explained that the pictures in the books were too violent to show their young children. Teachers all over try to explain and teach young children about slavery but really don’t know how to without pressuring parents about black history. As a preschool teacher, there are many ways you can teach preschool children black history.
We must keep in mind that young children are constantly asking for knowledge with 90% of their brains telling us to feed them. Explaining our history to children is like planting a seed before it blooms into a beautiful flower. So, I’ve created non-violent preschool books about slavery, civil rights, and segregation. Followed by my website, teachers will have access to preschool activities that goes along with the books. The name of my preschool book business is call “History for Preschool.” This is our history and there is no way we can change it. Preschool children learning black history is an ongoing process and I want stop until they learn their history.
