heads were told their salaries would be halved if, within thirty-five days, they did not
reach the goal of sterilizing 1, 369 persons, fitting 818 with IUDs, and carrying out 163
abortions (p. 3).

Not only are the women of China being assessed fines but the
employees of the state are being penalized as well.
When violators of the one child policy can not pay the fines imposed upon them,
the officials of that region are legally allowed to destroy their homes.

The destruction
of their home no longer just imposed upon the mother or father but also the extended
family that was most likely depending on them for a home. The punishment affects the
entire family.
Even more extreme have been cases of women forced to undergo abortions when
their unborn child is at full term.

The former administrator of China’s Planned Birth
Control Office, Gao Xiao Duan also testified at the hearing. She describes her encounter
with a woman that was nine months pregnant that did not have the authorization to have a
baby.
According to the policy, she was forced to undergo an abortion surgery. In the
operation room I saw the aborted child’s lips were sucking, how its limbs were
stretching. A physician injected poison into its skull, and the child died, and it
was thrown into the trash can (p. 4).

The inhumane treatment of this mother and child is a gross violation of human
rights. This mother had to undergo the tragic invasion of her body with a forced abortion
followed by the murder of her child. The government has not even considered the
physical and psychological damage that has now been imposed on so many Chinese
women.
Not only is there little protection or value placed on the lives of women but
children are also discarded. There is little protection for children, especially female
