Abstract:

Conservative social thought can be rooted in a Darwinian conception of the imperfectibility of evolved human nature. This paper summarizes the arguments for such a Darwinian conservatism. It responds to some of the criticisms of Darwinian conservatism coming from recent books by four conservative authors--Harvey Mansfield, Peter Lawler, Carson Holloway, and Ann Coulter.

But Darwinian science suggests that such biotechnology will be so limited by the adaptive complexity of human nature and by the moral ends set by natural human desires that human nature will endure.
