Can Attention to International News Predict Feelings Toward Foreign Countries?
Unformatted Document Text:  News Attention and Feelings toward Foreign Countries opposite directions. The more people were interested in foreign affairs news, the less positive their attitudes toward North Korea were. The higher the amount of attention was paid to news about U.S. relations with other nations, the warmer people felt about Brazil. Perhaps more noteworthy is the complete lack of relationship between any measure of interest in international news coverage (either attention to foreign news or attention to foreign affairs news) and evaluations of Germany, Iraq, and India. Overall, the analysis of simple correlations partially confirms the hypothesis of the current study that assumes the agenda-setting effect of news attention on public opinions concerning other nations. Consequently, a thorough examination of the data using a more powerful, multivariate technique is most necessary to test the ability of international news attention in predicting the variance in feelings toward foreign countries.
