Law After War: The "Messianic" Sovereign

Abstract | Word Stems | Keywords | Association | Citation | Get this Document | Similar Titles

Abstract:

The impossibility of the separation between the sacred and the secular in modern law reaches a certain climax in the idea, or ideal, of law as a messianic promise, i.e., the promised “return” of the (democratic, humanitarian, legitimate) sovereign after the war (promise as the jus ad bellum). This paper examines the nexus of law, sovereignty and war through the lens of modern secular theological-theoretical responses to St. Paul.
