Conference Strand: Sustainability Education Bridging the Watershed: A public-private partnership for hands-on science education Jeanne Troy Alice Ferguson Foundation Maggie Zadorozny National Park Service Abstract: Bridging the Watershed (BTW) is a regional environmental education outreach program of the Alice Ferguson Foundation (AFF) in partnership with the National Park Service (NPS) and school systems of the Potomac River Watershed. Over ten years the BTW partnership has represented a successful collaboration between a natural resource agency (NPS) and a non-formal education
stakeholders from both AFF and NPS in an effort to expedite the decision-making process. This increases the communication within the parks by adding a top-down element to the current bottom-up strategy. Soon representatives from the third stakeholder group the school systems that participate will be invited to join the Council. This strong base partnership puts BTW in excellent position as it enters the next phase of program development. BTW is poised to receive significant funding increases through a few
