Abstract:

Condom use intention depends on effective communication to translate into behavior. Since heterosexual women need partner compliance for condom use, communication is integral to women’s condom use behaviors. Little is known about Chinese women’s condom use behavior. An interactive intervention targeting condom use communication was conducted with 101 female Chinese students in a Shanghai university. The intervention enhanced condom use communication cognitions including knowledge, attitude, self-efficacy, and intention. Implications for health promotion practitioners are discussed.
