Learner/participant outcomesAs a result of this session, participants will be able to 1. Understand the issues and challenges in providing educational services to
children with disabilities throughout China.
2. Identify unique qualities Chinese exceptional educators possess. 3. Draw conclusions of what important cultural and linguistic factors U.S.
professionals need to know to improve the quality of services for students with disabilities and their families from Asian backgrounds.
B.
Outcomes and MethodsThis presentation focuses on a research project (TCEE) conducted in planning,
implementing, and evaluating an effective training model for improving the knowledge and skills of exceptional education teachers in China. The bilingual presenter will introduce (1) background information on current progress and challenges of special education services in China; (2) the research methodology used in evaluating the effectiveness of training, understanding challenges in special education teacher training programs, and teachers’ perceptions toward inclusion; (3) plan of actions to sustain the use of training in the classroom through on-line instruction and mentoring.Three reflective questions will be asked: (1) What can we learn from the Chinese exceptional education teachers? (2) What are the barriers or obstacles in providing quality educational services for students with disabilities that are from Asia? (3) How can we prepare teachers to work with students and families from Asian background?

Outcomes and Methods This presentation focuses on a research project (TCEE) conducted in planning,
