Partnership of Teacher Preparation Program and Elementary Lab School to Engage in Global Education
Unformatted Document Text:  3 presentation focuses on the development of and expansion of teaching strategies utilized in teacher education programs to better implement and execute the goals of multicultural education in order to enhance learning and elevate student responsibility. Section I: Content - - Implication for Action The implications for action are many, and may include any or all of the following: • Changes in teacher preparation programs based on the results of this research; • Changes in the philosophy and goal statements of the elementary education curriculum; • Inclusion in teacher education programs of an emphasis on instructional strategies focused on multicultural education; and • Heightened awareness of the need to instruct educational practitioners on both the importance of and the mechanisms for including a multicultural mind-set that is geared toward establishing student societal awareness and responsibility. Section II: Outcomes and Methods - - Learner / Participant Outcomes The participants at this session will learn how the collaboration was developed and how a focus of global education was added to the 5 th and 6 th grade classroom. Specific teaching strategies utilizing culturally pluralistic content, experiences, and perspectives to teach other knowledge and skills will be discussed. Section II: Outcomes and Methods - - Methods Each participant will receive handouts of a power point presentation which delineated the collaboration, methods of instruction, and results of the project. Presenters will verbally provide a short synopsis of the project and its results followed by a period for questions from the participants. Audience interaction throughout the presentation is encouraged. Contact information will be provided to the participants to acquire additional information, as desired. References Banks, J.A. (1990).
