Abstract:

In fiction, at least in visual fiction, African-American and Hispanic American men have been elected to the presidency, but in fiction, women have only ascended to the presidency through turns of events that landed a woman in the Oval Office. I found this conclusion, based on my research of who had played the president and how they had achieved that office in filmic and televisual presentations, quite curious. As I probed further, I was even more intrigued, because before minority men were elected to the fictional presidency, they too had ascended to that highest office through turns of events that “landed” them in the Oval Office. This paper incorporates the fictional history of women and minority men as they have been presented as President of the United Stats while integrating what we know now about women and minority candidates for the actual White House.
