Abstract
Military space policy works at the edges of public consciousness despite its importance, NASA and its exploits overshadow the field. Despite this obscurity, major decisions are being made regarding the future directions for military space activities including the prospect of weapons in outer space. This paper examines this debate and the growing disconnect between the American military and the political class that will make policy regarding these matters. The possibility exists that the decision to weaponize will be made by the professionals with the implication that in a future international crisis decisions will be made by a national command authority ignorant of the implications – a replay of the run up to World War I. the analysis here focuses on the implications of weaponization both in terms of foreign policy and international space policy. |
