Abstract:
|
This paper uses content analysis of local media commentary on the evolutionary debate to better understand the nations current political and religious divisions and how the press responds to issues of controversy that entangle the two. The results reveal a polarized set of discourses, particularly at the grassroots level. The paper also studies the sources of cultural resonance for the themes used to support the goals of the movement opposed to teaching scientific evolution and the routes to and prospects for political harmony on the signature issue of the culture wars. |
