The paper analyzes patterns of elite party endorsements of presidential nomination candidates, tests a model for why legislators endorse particular presidential nomination candidates, and assesses the extent to which nomination behavior at the mass and elite levels is consistent with: a) strategic v. sincere voting, and b) the median voter vs. divergent parties frameworks. |
