Abstract:

This paper examines the response of a Women’s and Gender Studies program at a southern regional university to an alarming increase (42%) in sexual assaults/rapes on campus. Using data from a campus wide survey, months of ethnographic observation at a “freshman bar,” and individual interviews with students, the authors discuss the merging of their work as scholars and activists in making the campus a less sexually dangerous space.
