Publication Type: Conference Paper/Unpublished Manuscript Abstract: My paper will deal with the Palestinian Arab minority in Israel from the perspective of the Israeli citizenship law and how Israel defines itself as a State for all Jews. It will review the legal relationship that Israel has with the Jewish Diaspora in comparison to the legal association with the Palestinian Arab minority who are citizens of the State and are non Jewish. The paper will also discuss the consequence of religion in determining nationality in a State that defines itself as democratic. It will also discuss the effects of political history of the State of Israel with respect to the Palestinian minority through the analysis of the effects of the military regime on the status of the Palestinian minority. This history, where two legal systems, martial law and civil law, were applied concurrently race and religion were the determining factor for what system was implemented. The paper will then deal with two statuses of citizenship, one for Jews where religion, nationality and citizenship concur; and the other for non-Jews where nationality, religion, and citizenship deviate. In conclusion, the paper will deal with the exploitation of the citizenship law for political aims in order to change the State's demographic nature.
