Abstract:

Most higher education institutions use the portfolio for pre-tenure or tenure and promotion. Most higher education professionals will experience the same journey I have at least once in their career, perhaps more than once. They will, and presumably, so will you, experience somewhat, more or less, what I experienced. For me though, the experience was far more life changing than I could ever have imagined. The experience was painful, frustrating, ego busting, elevating, moral booster, adrenaline charged and just plain life changing. This is a self-reflection of that experience. It is not a research paper, it is not a ‘scientific’ endeavor, it is an open, frank discussion, a narrative if you wish, about putting your teaching being and your professional being, and perhaps even some of your personal being, into order, on paper with your goals, ambitions and teaching/research experiences so not only the committee that is viewing it will understand who you are, but that YOU will understand who you are, and what you want to be professionally.
